Updated “Cubed Curve” Finds New Home At Ursinus College
The 5-ton “Cubed Curve” settles into its new home at Ursinus College, proudly displaying its bright cobalt blue coating. For over 40 years, this sculpture stood as a landmark in New York City’s bustling Rockefeller Center. When our team was again asked to update its finish, we were happy to tackle the project.
Two years ago, this iconic steel sculpture left its home on Sixth Avenue New York City, where it stood since 1972. Commissioned artists William Crovello built this innovation atop a Life & Time pedestal. Crovello’s piece is said to have been inspired by a fluid brush stroke.
Our team at Spray Finishes previously painted this sculpture its signature cobalt blue when it still stood in Manhattan. When the sculpture underwent renovations and moved to Main Street, Collegeville Pennsylvania, our team again updated its striking blue color.
We used our custom color matching service, along with our electrostatic spray painting process to give the long-standing sculpture an updated vibrant look. Our paint spraying techniques utilize positively charged paint to evenly coat the curve-shaped figure. The intricate shape of this piece strongly highlights the talents of our team.
Although Ursinus College is relatively small, at about 1,400 students, its outdoor sculpture collection holds a great collection of contemporary pieces. This 75-piece assortment is home to the largest selection of work by the British sculpture Lynn Chadwick in all of North America. And now, the collection has grown with the addition of the “Cubed Curve.”
